Visualizing of metabolites in the prostate gland
Using magnetic resonance spectroscopy the prostate gland and concentrations of various specific metabolites in the prostate gland can be visualized. Not only the conventional 3-D image of the prostate obtained from magnetic tomography but also differences in the concentration of these metabolites can indicate the presence of a malignancy.
This method gives the examiner another tool besides elastography and contrast-enhanced ultrasonography to obtain information on abnormal areas. Ultrasonography can then be used to visualize these areas in the prostate for targeted biopsies.
Safe examination method
No X-rays are used in magnetic resonance spectroscopy. It is therefore a very safe examination method. This test is done in close cooperation with the Department of Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology of the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf.
